Amla steers South Africa past Zimbabwe
• Zimbabwe 269 all out; South Africa 273-2• South Africa win by eight wicketsHashim Amla hit his second century in a row and AB de Villiers also passed three figures as South Africa took a 2-0 lead in their three-match one-day series against Zimbabwe with an eight-wicket win in Potchefstroom.Amla made 110, the same score he made in Bloemfontein on Friday, and together with De Villiers, whose unbeaten 72-ball 101 was raised with a six that won the match, took the hosts beyond their 269 target with 11 overs to spare.Juan Theron had earlier taken five wickets as Zimbabwe were dismissed for 268. Several batsmen got starts but only Tatenda Taibu, who made 78, kicked on. The two sides will now contest a dead rubber in Benoni on Friday. After Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat, Brendan Taylor followed up his unbeaten 145 in the first game with a 59-run opening stand with Chamu Chibhabha. Taylor made 32 before being the first of Theron's five victims in a 12th over that also saw the dismissal of Sean Williams for a duck.Six balls later Chibhabha edged Wayne Parnell to De Villiers, leaving the Zimbabweans on 60 for three and bringing the 39-year-old Grant Flower to the crease. Taibu shared 47 with the veteran Essex player – a surprise inclusion for the series after more than six years in the international wilderness – who was then out for 22.Taibu constructed a stand of 48 with Craig Ervine and raised his half-century from 61 balls with two boundaries. Further stands, of 40 with Elton Chigumbura and 33 with Keith Dabengwa lifted Zimbabwe to 269.The hosts made a good start with Amla and Graeme Smith taking them past 50 in the ninth over. Smith was dismissed by Chigumbura, offering a simple chance to Dabengwa at mid-off to be out for 40.Amla brought up his half-century from 42 balls and with De Villiers took the game completely away from the visitors with a 50 stand in 44 balls. The pair raised their 100 partnership in the 28th over and Amla's hundred came up from 97 balls. He was soon out but JP Duminy and De Villiers saw the Proteas home in the 39th over.South Africa cricket teamZimbabwe Cricket TeamCricketguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
