Dolphins coach fumes over home loss
• Dolphins beaten 41-14 by the New England Patriots• Sparano: 'We need to figure out how to get better'Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said his team's 41-14 home loss to the New England Patriots had left a "bad taste" but he defended quarterback Chad Henne after a grim night for the Florida team. The Dolphins committed a series of errors and looked a different side to the one which began the campaign with solid wins at Buffalo and Minnesota and a narrow loss to the New York Jets last week. The Dolphins now have a bye week before a tough game against the Green Bay Packers and Sparano says there is plenty of work to do in the next two weeks."It's a bad taste in your mouth but we put ourselves in this position so we are going to have to deal with it. We are going to taste it now for the next couple of weeks. That's the way it goes," he told reporters."We'll be out there, we'll practice and we shouldn't forget it, it happened to us. We need to figure out how to get better and that's it," he said."I don't think you can dismiss the first three games because of what happened here. I mean we had a tidal wave hit us here with all the negative plays that we had but there are some things that we have got to fix that have been consistent [problems]."Sparano said he had not considered replacing Henne, who threw three interceptions, with the more experienced back-up Chad Pennington."I didn't consider making a change at all. I thought he put us in a position to get back in the football game. I think he responded positively," he said while noting the importance of the two picks Henne threw."The turnovers in the first half we can't do – you can't turn the ball over like that against a good team."NFLUS sportguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
