• 23-year-old may have taken his own life, say authorities• Broncos coach Josh McDaniels speaks of 'tragic loss'Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels led the tributes to Kenny McKinley today after the 23-year-old wide receiver was found dead at a house in Colorado.Although investigations are ongoing, authorities have suggested McKinley may have taken his own life."Deputies discovered a male in the second-floor master bedroom of the home and determined that male was deceased," the Arapahoe County sheriff's department said in a statement."Although the death of Mr McKinley appears to be the result of a self-inflicted gunshot, the investigation into this matter is ongoing."McKinley, who had been placed on the injured reserve list before the start of the current season with a knee injury, was a fifth-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and played in eight games with the Broncos as a rookie.McDaniels said he was distraught at the news."Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great team-mate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."Broncos team president Pat Bowlen said: "Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley."He was part of the Broncos family and will be greatly missed by our organisation. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."NFLUS sportguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |

• European champion holds off South Africa's Van Zyl• Rhys Williams takes bronze for WalesDai Greene added the Commonwealth title to his European crown after he held off South Africa's Louis Van Zyl in the 400 metres hurdles final in Delhi. The Welshman won in 48.52sec as Van Zyl desperately tried to make up the deficit following the final hurdle. However, Greene held on to record Wales's first gold of these Games, completing a memorable year for the 24-year-old from Llanelli.Rhys Williams, Greene's training partner and the European silver medallist, was third in 48.96 to claim a bronze for Wales.Greene told BBC Sport: "I knew he [Van Zyl] was the guy to watch out for but I always felt I had an extra gear to switch to when I wanted to and I did in the home straight."I put myself in the driving seat and then waited to see what he did and push on if I had to. Lots of people have been coming up to me and saying: 'Go on Dai', but I knew what I was capable of. I'm very pleased. The season couldn't have gone any better. I won the UK trials, the Europeans and now the Commonwealths. There's nothing else I could possibly have won. It all bodes well for next year and the Worlds, and then 2012."Williams, who trains with Greene under Malcolm Arnold in Bath, added: "The two guys ran great. I thought it would be a lot closer but fair play to Dai. He did well, it's tough and the strongest survive."The English pair Richard Yates and David Hughes were fifth and eighth respectively.Scotland's Eilidh Child was second in the women's 400m hurdles in 55.62 behind Nigeria's Muizat Odumosu with England's Meghan Beesley seventh.Carl Myerscough picked up bronze in the discus with a best throw of 60.64m, just 13 centimetres ahead of Apostolos Parellis in fourth.English pair Emeka Udechuku and Chris Scott were fifth and seventh respectively with Scotland's Angus McInroy 11th.Myerscough, nicknamed the 'Blackpool Tower', told BBC Sport: "I finally [got a medal], I am very delighted."I have competed four times in five days and my energy levels were low. I knew had to put it in from the start and that's what I did."England's Vikki Hubbard missed out on a medal in the high jump as she came fourth with a best effort of 1.83m with Kay Humberstone and Stephanie Pywell in a four-way tie for sixth.Commonwealth Games 2010Athleticsguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
