Daley wins second diving gold medal
• 16-year-old adds 10m platform title to 10m synchro title• Parag Patel wins second shooting gold medal for EnglandTom Daley added the Commonwealth title to his world crown after he held his nerve to see off the Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham in the 10m platform in Delhi. The pair traded the lead throughout the competition and Daley entered the final round with a lead of only 1.75points. However, while the 16-year-old Englishman showed few nerves in producing a very good dive, his Australian rival fluffed his entry and was marked accordingly.Daley finished with 538.35pts, 27.20 ahead of Mitcham although that did not reflect the close nature of the contest. It was Daley's second title in two days after he partnered Max Brick to the 10m synchro title yesterday.Meanwhile, Parag Patel secured England's second shooting gold of the day with victory in the full bore singles.Patel fired a score of 396 to take the gold ahead of the Australian James Corbett (395) with Northern Ireland's David Calvert taking the bronze with 393.Scotland's Angus McLeod and Ian Shaw took the silver medal in the pairs full bore open pairs final with Patel claiming his second medal of the day, a bronze with Jon Underwood.Earlier Patel's England team-mate Richard Brickell struck gold in the men's singles skeet. Brickell and Cypriot Georgios Achilleos both fired scores of 144 but the Englishman won on the x-ring count, claiming seven to six from Achilleos. It was Brickell's second medal of the day, having already won a bronze with Clive Bramley in the pairs skeet.Tom DaleyCommonwealth Games 2010AthleticsDivingguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
