Croft hopeful he'll be fit for Six Nations
• Leicester flanker Tom Croft out until new year• Tigers' Toby Flood set to return this weekendLeicester hope their England flanker Tom Croft, who fractured his right shoulder blade against South Africa, will be back in action before the start of the Six Nations.Croft will see a specialist this week. The normal lay-off period for the injury is between six and eight weeks and the Tigers are resigned to not seeing the 25-year-old in action again until the new year. "We have not had the best of luck with injuries this season and we will have to see what the fall-out is," Leicester's director of rugby, Richard Cockerill, said. "It is disappointing with the Heineken Cup coming up because missing guys like Tom can cost you games."Better news for Leicester is that their fly-half Toby Flood, who followed Croft from the field at Twickenham after taking a bang on the head tackling the South Africa hooker Bismarck du Plessis, should be available for the Premiership match at London Irish on Saturday.Jonny Wilkinson, who missed the autumn international series because of a shoulder injury, trained with Toulon today and is expected to be fit for their Top 14 match at home to Montpellier on Friday night. "He has not taken full contact yet, but he should be in the side," the team manager, Tom Whitford, said.England will finish the year fourth in the world rankings, the highest placed team in the northern hemisphere. New Zealand are at the top, followed by Australia and South Africa, with Ireland making up the leading five. Wales are ninth and closer to 10th-placed Fiji than they were at the start of the month. The South Africa coach, Peter de Villiers, is likely to take the Springboks to the World Cup after the comfortable victory over England. His position will be reviewed next month but the president of the South African Rugby Union, Oregan Hoskins, said: "It was important psychologically to get a result like that. England were on the up but you could see why we are the world champions. It has been a tough year but we laid down a marker and I am positive about our prospects."London Irish's Samoan international wing Sailosi Tagicakibau has agreed a four-year deal that ties him to the club until 2015 while the Tongan forward Chris Hala'ufia will sign a new three-year deal.LeicesterRugby unionPaul Reesguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
