After three informal events, with the first in 1995, the inaugural formal event was held in 2002 at the K Club in Ireland, with Europe winning by 9½-2½. However two years ago the US took victory by an incredible 22-2 margin. At Gleneagles, Europe were trailing 9-3 after the first day's foursomes and fourballs and had to take the final session by the same score to force a tie, but lost three of the first five games and halved another.Jordan Spieth was a stand out player for the United States, the 17-year-old, who finished 16th in the US Tour's Byron Nelson Championship in May, won all his three games.Ryder CupGolfguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
