Sky Sports' coverage of the golf tournament's first three days peaked with 1.7 million viewers on SundaySky Sports' live coverage of the first three days of the Ryder Cup peaked with more than 1.6 million viewers, and the channel was the third most watched in UK homes for much of yesterday afternoon, Sunday 3 October.Europe's near clean sweep of yesterday's play gave Sky Sports 1 its biggest audience of the tournament to date, averaging 1.37 million viewers between 1.30pm – when play began after another rain-delayed start – and 6pm. Its audience peaked with 1.659 million viewers, an 8.7% share, between 5.30pm and 5.45pm.The golf beat BBC2's racing coverage of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which averaged 704,000, a 5% share, between 2pm and 3.25pm, and the Richard Widmark film repeat Alvarez Kelly, which averaged 752,000 viewers, a 4.6% share, between 3.25pm and 5.15pm.Live Ryder Cup action also beat Channel 4's Jennifer Lopez film repeat The Wedding Planner, which had 588,000 viewers between 2.35pm and 4.35pm, and the gameshow Deal or No Deal, which had 1.123 million viewers between 4.25pm and 5.25pm, as well as Channel 5's Doris Day musical repeat Calamity Jane, which had 760,000 viewers between 3.20pm and 5.20pm.But it was not enough to beat BBC1's coverage of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, which had 2.848 million viewers, an 18.3% share, between 2pm and 5.30pm, or another showing for Saturday night's edition of The X Factor on ITV1, which had 1.632 million viewers, an 11.4% share, between 1.55pm and 3.50pm.The golf averaged 641,000 viewers over the entirety of Sky's coverage between 7am and 7pm, a 5.4% share of the audience.Yesterday's peak beat the live golf's best highest audience of 1.228 million at 5.45pm on Saturday. That afternoon's coverage averaged 955,000, a 7.5% share, between 1pm and 7pm, with Saturday morning's coverage averaging 581,000, 9% of the audience, between 7am and 1pm.Friday's rain-affected first day averaged 290,000 viewers, a 5% share, between 7am and 1pm, and 410,000, a 3.6% share, between 1pm and 7pm. All of the live golf was carried on Sky Sports 1.The audience for BBC2's Ryder Cup highlights show has grown steadily over the first three days of the tournament, which was taken into an unprecedented fourth day today because of the weather.Friday's highlights had 1.501 million, a 6.3% share between 8.30pm and 10pm.
