"I knew I had that swim in me and I still think I can go quicker," he said."I had a shoulder problem for most of last year so I'm so happy with that swim. I knew it was going to be quite a tight race and I like to go out hard and then control the race."It was Goddard's second Commonwealth title of his career eight years after the first. The 27-year-old won the event in 2002, as well as taking third in the 200m individual medley, and since then he has reached Olympic and world finals, finishing fourth at the 2004 Olympics.Halsall, 20, enjoyed a surprise victory last night in the 50m butterfly but could not add the Commonwealth freestyle title to her European gold and world silver. Alicia Coutts of Australia took the gold with team-mate Emily Seebohm claiming the silver.Commonwealth Games 2010Swimmingguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
