Fallon pulls out of Hawkeyethenoo ride
• Jim Goldie on lookout for new jockey for second favourite• Ex-champion rider switched to Newbury for Luca CumaniKieren Fallon is unlikely to be available to ride Hawkeyethenoo, the well-backed second favourite for Saturday's Ayr Gold Cup, as he will instead be sent to Newbury by his main employer, Luca Cumani. Jim Goldie, trainer of the 8-1 shot, is now at a loss to know who will be available to take over in the saddle."I thought I had him, now I haven't," Goldie said. "I have several irons in the fire for a replacement but they are in a similar position with commitments here and there. We will just have to wait and see."Goldie says he has kept Hawkeyethenoo under wraps since the four-year-old won a valuable race at York in July, with Fallon aboard. The hope is that he can become the Ayr race's first Scottish-trained winner since 1975."This is my best chance [in the Ayr Gold Cup] for a long while," Goldie added. "I haven't troubled the judge at all. I think fifth is the best I've done."Fallon's agent, Gareth Owen, confirmed that the jockey was expected at Newbury to parner Forte Dei Marmi in a handicap that often serves as a Camebridgeshire trial. "We go where Mr Cumani tells us," Owen said.Delegator, runner-up to Sea The Stars in last year's 2,000 Guineas, may have his first run of the season in a Listed race at Newbury on Friday. Purchased by Godolphin for an undisclosed sum last summer, the colt has been sidelined by an unspecified injury since running fifth in the Breeders' Cup Mile in November."He worked well on Monday and I was really happy with him," said his trainer, Saeed bin Suroor. "He has had setbacks but the horse is coming now and he needs a confidence-booster to start with."Delegator holds an entry in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot the following weekend but it must be highly unlikely that he would be aimed at such a high-quality race so soon after his comeback.Horse racingKieren FallonChris Cookguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
