Els: Dubai criticism was misconstrued
• Els denies he will skip Dubai World Championship• 'To say I don't like the course is sensationalism'Ernie Els has dismissed suggestions that he will miss the European Tour's flagship finale because he does not like the course in Dubai. The Dubai World Championship is due to take place on the Jumeirah Golf Estates' Earth Course on 25-28 November and quotes attributed to Els had indicated he would not be taking part. However, the South African issued a statement today which read: "Unfortunately I was taken out of context. There are a couple of holes I don't particularly like but to say that I don't like the entire course is just sensationalism. As a designer myself, I don't criticise other people's work."Unfortunately my words after the final round of the Dunhill at St Andrews were taken the wrong way. It is just not right to say I will not be going to Dubai because of the golf course."I have been going to the Emirates for many years and have always enjoyed my experiences and the courses there. It's a fantastic place and I look forward to going back."Whether he does so next month remains undecided. Els is currently fourth in the standings, which are led by Germany's Martin Kaymer.Ernie ElsGolfguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
